Sodium Metabisulfite
Sodium Metabisulfite is a strong reducing agent in aqueous solution. It binds the oxygen dissolved in water, it is used to remove FRC free residual chlorine in RO feed water to protect the membranes from oxidation.

Properties:
Sodium Metabisulfite ( SMBS) is available in the form of a fine microcrystalline powder , it has a slight odour of sulphur dioxide.
With exposure to air , Sodium bisulfite solutions undergo oxidation
Sodium metabisulfite is a strong reducing agent in aqueous solution. It binds the oxygen dissolved in water and must therefore not be discharged untreated into rivers and lakes, because it may seriously disrupt animal and plant life.
Applications:
In Reverse Osmosis Systems. It is commonly used for removal of free chlorine and as a biostatic. It reduce biological growth and keep membrane performance characteristics during long term storage, shipping or system shut downs.
In the chemical and pharmaceutical industries for various purposes, e. g. As a reducing agent.
In drinking water treatment to remove excess chlorine.
In special cases to remove oxygen from boiler feed water.
In wastewater and sewage treatment
In aqueous solution they are in the form of sodium Bisulfite, i.e. in the same form as in our product Sodium Bisulfite Solution 38 – 40%. However, the solution prepared in this way is of higher purity, clear, slightly yellowish liquids with a strong odour of Sulphur dioxide, and pH values between 3.9 and 4.4.
